How to Keep Your Fade Looking Fresh Between Visits

Your fade looks best in the first week. With the right routine, you can keep it sharp longer.

A great fade looks best in the first few days after your appointment. But with a few simple habits, you can extend that sharp, fresh-from-the-chair look for much longer. Here's what our barbers at Aria recommend.

1. Know Your Timeline

Most fades start to lose their crispness after about 7-10 days as the hair grows in. If you want to keep a consistently sharp look, we recommend visiting every 2 weeks for a touch-up. For a more relaxed approach, every 3-4 weeks works well for most men.

2. Keep the Neckline Clean

The neckline is the first area that starts to look untidy. If you're comfortable with a trimmer, you can carefully clean up the neckline at home between visits. Use a handheld mirror, start conservatively, and avoid going higher than the line your barber set.

3. Wash and Condition Properly

Even with short hair, washing and conditioning matters. Use a quality shampoo 2-3 times a week (not daily, over-washing strips natural oils) and consider a lightweight conditioner to keep the hair on top healthy and manageable.

4. Use the Right Product

The product your barber uses to style your hair at the end of your appointment is part of the look. Ask them what they used and how to apply it at home. A small amount of pomade, clay or wax usually does the trick. Work it between your palms first and apply evenly.

5. Protect Your Hair at Night

If you have a longer top that you style in a specific direction, consider sleeping on a satin or silk pillowcase. It reduces friction and helps your hair maintain its shape overnight.

6. Don't Skip the Sun Protection

Faded sides mean exposed skin. In the summer months, apply sunscreen to your scalp and the back of your neck when spending time outdoors. This protects your skin and prevents uneven tanning.

When to Come Back

There's no hard rule. If you want the sharpest look at all times, book every 2 weeks. If you prefer a more natural grow-out, every 3-4 weeks is a great rhythm. At Aria Barbershop, you can book ahead on Booksy or walk in any day of the week.
